Winter storm on the way to end November

November 28, 2015 0 Comments

A winter storm watch has been issued for the areas along and west of I-35 in southern Minnesota and northern Iowa. The watch runs from 6 am Monday to 6 pm Tuesday in Minnesota and 6 am Monday to 6 am Tuesday in Iowa. There is no indication yet as to whether a watch will be issued for the rest of our area.

We are expecting the system to move in from the south Monday morning, with a mix of rain and snow the primary precipitation type to start.

We will see a transition to all snow by Monday night, with that being the best time for accumulating snow. Snow showers will also be possible throughout Tuesday.

The highest totals will occur in southwest Minnesota and northwest Iowa, my thinking is we could see 3-6 inches of snow in our area, with the higher end of that range more likely in the western part of our area. We will continue to track this system through the weekend. For those wondering, Rochester International Airport has received 1.7 inches of snow so far this season, which is below normal by 4.5 inches.
