The Cold Spell Continues

November 19, 2014 0 Comments

Our unbelievable cold spell has now passed the one week mark with plenty of cold weather still in our immediate future. We’ve been below freezing for eight full days now which isn’t quite a record for the month of November, but it now places us on the top ten list and it looks like a quick climb to the top isn’t too far-fetched. For all intents and purposes we might as well be in mid December with this type of weather and the relatively fresh coating of snow on the ground. Wind chill maps have become a staple in our regular weathercasts and snowflakes continue to outnumber rain drops on the 7 day forecast graphic.

We're climbing the list of all-time longest stretches of sub freezing weather in November.

We’re climbing the list of all-time longest stretches of sub freezing weather in November.

The current thinking is that we’ll tie for second place on the all-time consecutive sub freezing temperature list as we move into the weekend, but the string will likely end there as at last a surge of November-like warmth will help us climb into the mid 30s Saturday and then the upper 30s Sunday. It looks like a relatively short-lived warm up, however, as colder air and even a chance of snow will move in on the backside of the weekend storm system that will be responsible for pulling in the milder air.
