Messy Outlook In Play For Tuesday/Wednesday

March 23, 2015 0 Comments

We saw large snow accumulations all across our area on Sunday night and we have another chance for some wintry precipitation coming on Tuesday night. A low pressure system tracking eastward across the Great Plains has a katafront (a front with precipitation preceding it) associated with it and that is bringing rain and wintry mix to South Dakota and Nebraska currently. The precipitation for our area is expected to start in the late afternoon or early evening and last through the early morning hours on Wednesday. It will likely start as rain and switch over to a mix before becoming all snow in the late evening. Snow accumulations of up to 2 inches are possible. Light snow will fall until right before the sun rises and then switch to a mix of freezing rain and sleet. The last of the precipitation should end by 9 am, however there is a chance of a stray rain shower or two during the afternoon on Wednesday. Road conditions could be treacherous with the light snow layer mixing with ice and sleet combined with sub-freezing temperatures. We will keep you updated on this situation as it gets closer on KTTC.
