A gasp of summer weather for the weekend

September 19, 2014 0 Comments

Our weather this week has gotten progressively warmer and warmer and seemingly more September-like as the 50 and 60 degree high temperatures we experienced a week or so ago have given way to the more seasonable lower 70s. It looks this warmer scheme of temperatures is going to stick around for quite a while starting with an almost summery weekend that will feature not only above normal temperatures for a day or two, but also a touch of humidity, something we’ve not felt in a couple of weeks.

Warm temps and slightly humid air will linger through early Saturday. Drier cooler air later in the weekend.

For those heading out to Friday night football games, it’s going to feel like a completely different season compared to last week. As you may recall, temperatures during last week’s games fell off sharply into the 40s after sunset. We eventually experienced our first frost early Saturday after that chilly night.

We have a summer-like Friday night ahead of us. Some rain will be possible late in the evening.

This time around, it’s going to be a summer-like theme for Friday night football with temperatures in the 70s and a little humidity in the air. Winds will be a little less gusty than by the evening, but there will certainly be a noticeable breeze. Showers may develop from the northwest along a cold front, so be prepared for some rain and even a rumble of thunder toward the third or fourth quarter, but in all likelihood the best chances for rain look to show up toward midnight.

The cold front producing tonight’s thunderstorms will move through the area by early Saturday, taking the rain chances with it by mid morning. The next round of showers and thunderstorms may develop in the evening hours Saturday with the arrival of a second cold front. Nothing intense or widespread is expected with the second front, but rather sparse, light showers. High pressure will settle in for Sunday with highs in the upper 60s in the afternoon.
