The 1st half of the week will feature a lot of winter, cold and a little more snow, but by the time next weekend rolls around spring will be knocking and most of us are going to answer.

Highs Sunday afternoon would have been right on par with the middle of January as winter still has a strong grip on the region.

Monday will feature a little bit of snow with light accumulations.  Take a quick glance cause I am focusing on the positives (warmer days and possibly 50s!)

In between the cold and the warm we watching a large system that could bring a mix of rain and snow to the area.  The track is being watched closely as we could see more accumulating snow out of the deal.  With that chance for more snow comes the likelihood of a number of different precip types.  Rain would be one of them and if it falls heavy enough we could start to have some flooding concerns as there is so much frost in the ground.  Until that frost comes out, any liquid precip will runoff into area streams/rivers.  We are keeping a close eye on this and you should as well, especially if you live close to water.

So I mentioned good news.  Finally the light at the end of the tunnel.  After we clear Friday, temperatures Saturday will be in the upper 30s to low 40s, but Sunday, Sunday is the day we have been waiting for.  The jetstream is going to lift north of us bringing with it a nice chunk of warm air from our south.  How warm?

It looks like 50s may be possible, but if the stars align, some spots could get even warmer.  If you’re thinking about getting the pool or patio furniture set up, I’d wait.  Reality looks to set back in with colder air (30s) coming back some time next week.  My bad.
