Halfway through Meteorological Winter, and we have bookmarked ourselves amongst some of the most notable winters of the past. The folks over at the NWS in La Crosse have dug up where we’re sitting so far during this interesting 2008-2009 winter.

The National Weather Service in La Crosse has posted the Top 10 weather events of 2008 for their area. Their ranks were voted on by NWS staff, Emergency Management officials, and media. You can view the list here.

Notice that brilliant moon this morning (if you saw it?) It was the Yule Moon, and if you thought it was brighter or bigger than normal, you’re not going crazy. This is the closest the moon has been to the earth since 1993! After today, you’ll have to wait another 8 years to see it this close again.
