Some Mild Weather Ahead for the Rest of This Week

April 8, 2014 0 Comments

We’ve already enjoyed a couple of doses of┬árather pleasant and mild early spring days in the past couple of weeks, including the past two days where highs near 60 degrees were felt across the entire area. It looks like we’ll be building on the concept of small gasps of mild weather by stretching out a longer spell of warmth to last through the tail end of this week into the early part of the weekend. Not only will we be flirting with 60 degree type warmth, but we’ll have a shot at 70 degrees for the first time in 2014 during this upcoming warm up. Our Tuesday, meanwhile, is a day that is more along the lines of your garden variety breezy and cool April weather.

Seasonably cool air remains in place for today under surface high pressure while a much warmer air mass is just to our west,.

The jet stream will buckle northward for the midweek, allowing some mild air in from the south, setting the stage for possibly the warmest day in 6 months for us. High temperatures near 70 degrees will be possible Wednesday thanks to sun filled skies and gusty southwest winds that will mix down some of that warmer air. The last time Rochester officially registered a high of 70 degrees was on October 11 of last year, incidentally.

The warmest air of the season moves in for Wednesday as a ridge of high pressure aloft builds in.

The jet stream over the weekend will take a dip southward, allowing much cooler air to pour in from Canada. While we don't expect any snow in this scenario, we will have a few days on the colder than normal side with highs in the 40s possible Sunday through early next week.
