Heat and Humidity Return

July 12, 2013 0 Comments

After a fairly comfortable stretch of days featuring low humidity and seasaonable temperatures, we’re looking at another surge of hot and humid weather in our forecast picture starting this weekend and likely holding on through the next week or so.  The jet stream is expected to shift northward, pushing most of the rain chances in the region to our north as storm systems will be diverted up and around the upper level ridge while warm sunshine will be in our area more often than not.  There will be rain chances in the next five or six days, but most showers look to be sparse with isolated showers and thunderstorms in the local area in most cases.  We’ll have a chance for some showers and thunderstorms late Friday night through the first portion of Saturday this weekend and then just slight chances for a few spptty showers early in the upcoming work week, so you may need to have the sprinklers handy to keep the lawns and gardens from getting too dry and crunchy.

Mild air from Canada is beginning to retreat to the north as the jet stream shifts northward and heat and humidity are flowing northward after taking a short vacation from our area.

By early next week, it appears that an upper level ridge will be dominating the weather picture for most of the country meaning a hot and humid stretch of days is expected. There will be just sparse chances for a few spotty showers with better chances of rain holding off possibly until late in the next week or the following weekend. High temperatures locally are expected to be in the upper 80s to around 90.
