Big Temperature Swings This Week

September 9, 2013 0 Comments

We’re in for quite a wild week as far as temperatures go in our region as intense heat will give way to crisp, autumnal conditions later on.  The upper levels winds right now are steering the jet stream northward to start our week and at the surface, a strong warm front is working its way through the Upper Mississippi Valley, allowing some hot, humid air into the area.  It’s going to be a quick blast of hot air and a very short-lived warm spell as a cold front to the west is expected to swing through our area later tonight, pulling in some cooler air into the region behind it for tomorrow.   Gusty winds in the warm sector of this storm system along with some bright afternoon sunshine will bring our surface temperatures into the mid 90s in much of the area and some records may fall in the surge of heat.

Warm air is blowing into the Upper Midwest under a ridge of upper level high pressure making for a toasty start to the week.
