New All-Time December Snowfall Record

As of 6pm this evening, 6.1″ of snow has been measured at the Rochester International Airport from this latest round of winter weather. This makes for a grand total of 37.8″ of snowfall so far this month in Rochester, MN, which surpasses the old December record of 35.3″ set back in 2000.

*The measured total of 6.1″ is not official yet and there’s a chance there was a bit more snow received after the measurement.*

The normal snowfall for Rochester, MN between November 1st and March 31st is 47.2″, only 9.4″ more than what we’ve received in just the first 20 days of December and only 8.1″ more than the 39.1″ we’ve received so far this season.

The normal seasonal snowfall (July 1-June 30) is 51.8″, only 14″ more than what we’ve received so far in December alone, and 12.7″ more than the 39.1″ we’ve received so far this season. With our 39.1″ of snow so far this season, we’ve already reached 75% of our yearly snowfall budget.
