Yeah, It’s Cold

Some cold weather statistics on our winter so far…

-We’ve yet to reach 32° in Rochester. The last January with no readings of 32° or higher was in 1979. The warmest high in January of 1979 was 23°. Our warmest this January was 28° on the 3rd.

-On only 5 occasions in our recorded weather history has there been a January with no 32° or warmer temperatures. Those Januarys were 1979, 1912, 1977, 1940 and 1929

-Our meteorological winter so far (December 1st through January 27th) is the 10th coldest on record with an average temperature of 10.2°. This is the coldest winter since 1981-82 when the average was 9.6°. The coldest winter on record through the 27th is 1886-87 followed by 1976-77, 1978-79, ,1887-88, and 1983-84.

-This January is the 21st coldest on record (as of the 27th) and the coldest since January of 1994.
