Life & Heroes

Nup_131459_0322Life!  It’s back!  Can you say I’m excited?  Life premiered last night.  It’s been so long since I’ve seen it.  I wish that they had run some repeats leading up to the premiere.  But you know what?  I’m excited anyways.  Charlie Cruz is back.  And quirky as ever.  Last night’s episode was no different.  He has a thought process that not many can follow (luckily his partner seems to be able to follow him).  He’s just so refreshing.  As for the episode, there were the people in the boxes.  Wierd, but it worked.  The bigger story is that he found Rachel.  But what he said to Rachel, "The fire sent me"?  I’m confused as to why he said that and why is calmed her down.  Oh, well.  I’m excited about next week.

Nup_132228_0013Now on to Heroes!  This show has me hooked.  Last night it was revealed that Sylar is Mama Bennett’s biological son.  He’s Peter and Nathan’s brother (or half brother).  I can’t wait until they find that out.

Then what was up with Parkman.  It’s interesting that they now have him in Africa with a man who speaks english and can paint the future (like Issac could).  And I don’t know if it was just me, but didn’t it look like the girl in the original painting, the one the guy painted over, didn’t she look a little like Daphne, our newest addition to the show?  (She also appears in the new picture, but she’s not having a good day in the new picture.)

The previews for next week look good.  I’ll try and write a little more after I have a breakdown discussion with my sister about the episode.

Tonight is House and Fringe.  I hope I actually will write about them this week.  We’ll have to see.

Oh, yeah.  I also said I was going to write about The Mentalist.  Well, I watched it and promptly decided that I have too many shows I watch that have quirky detectives…Life, Law & Order:CI, Monk, Psych…the show didn’t peak my interest as being too diferent from these shows.  Oh, well.  You can’t win them all.

A Disappointment

I was excited to see the movie Lakeview Terrace this weekend.  But…I was sorely disappointed.  Samuel L. Jackson is a great actor, but he couldn’t pull this movie up to something that was at least decent.

The idea for the movie is an old idea, but a good one.  Two neighbors don’t like each other.  A series of minor conflicts spiral out of control.  One problem?  There wasn’t enough conflict.  The movie was slow and boring.  And the conflict they did have, they should have done something with it.

Let’s see… in a paragraph (and my paragraph is more interesting than the movie was) here’s the movie….

There were cigarettes, securiy lights, and parking.  Then Samuel L. Jackson hit his daughter.  Then Samuel L. Jackson almost got fired from his job (he’s a cop) for beating a suspect.  Then he had a bachelor party at his house and had his friends (all cops) hold down his neighbor (when the neighbor came to ask that they please turn the music down) while a stripper gave him a lap dance.  Then Samuel L. Jackson’s character got a druggie to break into his neighbor’s house.  Samuel L. Jackson ran over to help the neighbor.  The wife came home while the druggie was there and was attempting to keep her quiet.  Samuel L. Jackson killed the druggie.  Then went through his pockets to search for his cell phone, the only thing that could tie him to Samuel L. Jackson.  He couldn’t find it.  The neighbors went to the hospital.  Then came home to get stuff and evacute from wildfires.  The neighbor finds the cell phone and realizes that his neighbor was the one who set up the ransack (and almost killing of his wife).  They have a showdown in the street.  The cops believe Samuel L. Jackson.  Then the neighbor got Samuel L. Jackson mad and he pulls out a gun to shoot the neighbor and gets taken down in the process.

Overall, BIG SNORE!!!  Save your money and see something else.  Anything else.

Bones…a day late…

I was rather upset about how last season ended on Bones.  Zach, Brennan’s smart, socially inept newly graduated grad student turned out to be a killer and cannibal.  They just barely brushed what was going on with that story line for the first episodes and then on Wednesday, they brought Zach back and I thought it was very well done.

We already knew Hodges was having problems with Zach being in "the loony bin".  The gang from the Smithsonian went to visit him this episode.  The writers are now starting to address what went on.  And for a surprise…Zach didn’t kill anyone (but he’s still a cannibal).  He knows that if were to admit to not killing anyone he would be sent to prison for being an accessory instead of being in the psychiatric hospital where he is currently.  Zach revealed this to Dr. Sweets, whom he knows can’t tell anyone because of client-patient privileges.

It’ll be interesting to see how they play this out.

Now, tonight, before the Presidential Debates, CBS is re-airing the pilot of The Mentalist.  If I remember correctly, this pilot didn’t do too well.  I’ll tape it and watch tonight and see what’s going on.

Good Versus Evil…Hero Versus Villian

Heroes!  Heroes! It finally came back!  And wow!  What a comeback!

Last night’s episodes made up for last season.  The previews already led us to believe that there would be a division in good versus evil people on the show, but the people who are good and who are evil was a surprise.  It also goes to show you that if you can see into the future, it will color your present.

So let’s begin with Nathan and Peter.  Nathan has always been the sweet, naive boy.  (At least in the first season…)  He wanted to save everyone.  But he came back from the future and "killed" his brother.  Peter’s not dead though.  (Why?  You may ask.  Last season, Nathan (or it may have been Adam) gave Peter some of his blood after the fire or explosion or whatever.  So now Peter can heal.)  Peter is now proclaiming he was touched by God and he’s now being made out to be the hero while Nathan is now the villian.  (At least future Nathan is a villian.)

Hiro and Ando are another good versus evil.  When Hiro went into the future, he saw that Ando killed him to get the formula back.  So Hiro is thinking Ando is a villian, but I have to disagree.  I think Hiro turns out to be evil in the future he saw and Ando is just trying to save the formula from the wrong hands.  And Ando has superpowers now…but I’ll talk about that later.

Then Mohinder!  He was supposed to be a good guy.  But he decided he wanted superpowers, too?  To kill Sylar?  That kind of scares me because isn’t it supposed to be Mohinder’s blood that’s the possible antidote to the gene mutation causing the superpowers?  And at the end of last night’s first episode, Mohinder’s monologue said something about the blood not being pure.  But now that Mohinder thinks (remember his body started freaking out at the end of the episode) he has found a way to give others superpowers, what’s going to happen?  Well, Ando gets powers for one.  He gets powers from that one guy on Level 5.  (Also on a side note…Mohinder slept with Mia?  That is scummy!)

We already know that the superpowers can be transferred because Sylar has powers.  Peter can now heal.  And Noah Bennett has some sort of powers, too.  Because he’s still alive.

As for next week’s episode?  Mama Bennett is turning out to be a major character, and we finally found out what her powers were (reading the future).  What I’m curious to is why she’s befriending Sylar.  And why’s she pairing him with Noah?  And what’s up with Peter seeing Linderman?  So many questions and 20 episodes left.  I’m in seventh heaven.  And get this!  Next week, Life AND Heroes are on Monday!  Yeah!

The Outer Reaches of Science

So shoot me…I have never been a real fan of X-Files or Lost.  For some reason Heroes captivated my attention.  So I actually didn’t have any real hope for Fringe.

But what do I see when I start my tape last night of Fringe?  A show that looked like it should be a movie.
Blood splattered on the windows of a plane.
A plane that landed itself.
A guy who got caught in an explosion that also had some unknown synthetic compound in it that has now caused his skin to become see through.
A freaky genius who was gotten from the local psychiatric hospital…and his freaky genius son, who hates his dad’s guts and is now running from the mafia.
It’s actually good stuff with a good plot.

What I didn’t expect to see was a strong female.  She doesn’t want to be special.  She has a jerk for a boss, who doesn’t seem to believe in female equality.  She was having an office romance with the guy who ended up with see through skin.  Turns out he was working for someone else.  (I’m guessing that’s why someone tried to kill him and why he ran and ended up dying in that car chase.)  Her name’s Olivia Dunham.  It’ll be interesting to see if she turns out to be a positive female lead without being a too weepy female or a too macho female.

And Walter Bishop?  Funny, but freaky.  I LOVED IT!

I didn’t care about the LSD scene.  Kind of wierd, but mostly lame in my opinion.

Overall I was impressed with the show.

As for some of the other premieres???  Not many have happened so far.  I kind of like Hole in the Wall on FOX 47. America’s Toughest Jobs isn’t as cool as I thought it may be.  I may watch Crusoe (based on Robinson Crusoe’s life).  I don’t think I’ll watch Kath and Kim or Knight Rider (although I LOVED the original).  My Own Worst Enemy has my interest peaked though.  I can’t wait for Life to come back, athough NBC made the horrible decision to move it to Fridays!

I’ll let you know as more shows are premiered.

Revenge has BEGUN!

Prison Break came back last night…and it hasn’t lost momentum.

Sarah returned!  I was bummed last season when Sarah was supposedly killed off.  Now I know that some may think that bringing Sarah back has cause Prison Break to jump the shark.  I don’t think that this is a problem though.  You got to understand that Lincoln (who discovered Sarah’s decapitated head) never really knew Sarah that well.  He had met her only a handful of times.  And as Michael pointed out last night, Lincoln had only seen the head in the box in the dark stairwell.  So, at least to me, Sarah return is believable.

Then man…T-Bag’s slimy.  They should just get rid of him.  He creeps me out.  And now when I see this guy act in other shows (repeats from before he was on Prison Break) I’m just freaked.  Besides when that guy asked (when the found T-Bag in the desert) "What’s wrong?  Did you eat some bad Mexican?"  Eeewww!!!

Let’s see.  Adding Michael Rappaport (I didn’t quite catch his name…the FBI agent guy) was a good choice.  Having him give Lincoln some of thier dad’s files.  Good touch.

I like the crew they rounded up so far.  Except they shouldn’t have left the girl and LJ in Panama.  I don’t think they’re going to saty there long though.  I’m sure not if Linc has anything to say about it.  I’m surprised about Bellick though.  I never liked him to begin with, but he’s starting to grow on me.  It did make me laugh when he’s like, "My mom’s never disappointed me yet."  Then when he saw her he ran screaming "MOM!!!"  It was cool how he helped Sucre get to the hospital to see his kid.

Things I didn’t like?  Well…what a quick way to get rid of the prison in Panama.  I mean, come on.  At least address it better.  Show the newspaper article or something.  Not just a quick phone conversation.  "Oh, yeah, Michael, everyone broke out of Sona."  I mean come on!  We’re not that stupid.

Overall, great, great premiere.  I hope all the other shows keep up with the example of Prison Break.

KTTC doesn’t premiere shows until late September.

Heroes is September 22.  I can’t wait!
